Amana's History

Amana is owned by the Whirlpool Corporation whose brand portfolio also includes Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. The humble beginnings of Whirlpool go back to 1911 when brothers Louis, Frederick and Emory Upton started to manufacture "Upton" washing machines in St. Joseph, Michigan. The company received an early break when Sears and Roebuck began selling two Upton washing machines under their own private label. Today, Whirlpool Corporation is the largest North American supplier of the Sears brand "Kenmore".

In 1956, the company opened a new administrative center in Benton Harbor, Michigan that now serves as the global headquarters for a company with more than 73,000 employees and annual sales of more than $19 billion. Whirlpool has 72 manufacturing and technology research centers around the world.
