Evaporator Fan

A refrigerator evaporator fan is located at the back of the fridge or in the freezer. Its job is to circulate air over refrigeration coils and into the fridge. The fan works with the evaporator which absorbs heat within the refrigerator and keeps the unit at a constantly cool temperature for optimal performance.

Common Types of Refrigerator Evaporator Fans

Evaporator fans are available for industrial as well as home refrigerators and they are sold as evaporator fan kits. The kits used domestically come in varying sizes and motor thicknesses. The fan blades also vary in size.

Depending on which kit you purchase, it could also include mounting grommets, sleeves, screws, and push-on fan blades. Most fan kits include the fan motor, but in some, the blades and the motor are sold separately.

How to Buy a Refrigerator Evaporator Fan

Most problems that occur with refrigeration cooling are due to the faults with the fan system. Other problems could be due frost build up on the evaporator coils if the appliance does not have a frost-free feature.

To purchase a new evaporator fan kit, the unit will need to be compatible with your appliance. Before you buy, check the part or kit number and contact the original manufacturer of the appliance. Alternatively, you can consider a generic or OEM fan kit, but make sure it is compatible with the make and model of your fridge. Evaporator fan and motor kits usually cost less than $100.

Who Makes Refrigerator Evaporator Fans

Evaporator and kits are manufactured by the following companies and can be purchased from many different retailers:
