JC Penney Refrigerators
Submit a review of JC Penney
JC Penney refrigerators were manufactured by General Electric (GE) and sold under the "Penncrest" label. As
appliance businesses have merged and consolidated over the years, many smaller lines were and continue to be
absorbed by larger ones, and often disappear altogether. Such was the case with Penncrest. In 1972 a Penncrest
13.7 cu. ft. refrigerator included a freezer and two porcelain crispers finished in enamel. The units came in
white, harvest gold, avocado, and copper tone. They sold for $269.95.
History of JC Penney
James Cash Penney opened a store called the Golden Rule in 1902 in Kemmerer, Wyoming which was the first version
of the JC Penney Company. By 1928 there were 1,000 stores. Mr. Penney headed the company until his death in 1971.
Over the decades the chain continuously re-vamped its image, acquiring and discontinuing lines and products. They
credit their success to keeping up with the times as evidenced in their catalog sales which began in 1963 and
their move into the Internet in 1998.
Parts and Repair Information for a JC Penney Refrigerator
JC Penney no longer offers repair service. If you own one of their refrigerators, an independent appliance repair
center or GE-made parts is the best bet. For parts replacement, search "JC Penney" or Penncrest refrigerator
parts in your favorite search engine.
Warranty
Since Penncrest refrigerators are no longer produced, an original warranty is no longer valid. However, most
repair services guarantee their work, often for 90 days. Always ask about a service warranty when contracting for
work.
