Caloric Dishwashers
Write a review
Caloric brand dishwashers are no longer manufactured. The brand was owned by Maytag
of Newton, Iowa, a maker of
residential and commercial appliances. In 2006, Whirlpool Corporation purchased Maytag and moved its operations
to Benton Harbor, Michigan. The acquisition integrated the Maytag list of brands including Hoover vacuums,
Caloric, Admiral, Amana, and Magic Chef.
History of Caloric/Maytag
Started in 1909, the Maytag Company began with the production of farm equipment such as threshing machines,
band-cutters, and self-feeder attachments. It then moved into the household appliances market with the
manufacture of the first fuel-powered clothes washing machine. Caloric dishwashers were manufactured at the
Maytag plant in Jackson, Tennessee at the time of acquisition by Whirlpool in 2006.
The Upton Machine Company, as Whirlpool was originally known, began in 1911 manufacturing wringer-washers. The
Whirlpool name was adopted in 1950. When it purchased Maytag, Whirlpool became the largest appliance manufacturer
in the world.
Dishwasher Maintenance
Regular maintenance of dishwashers may extend the life of the appliance. Consumers should regularly wash interior
surfaces with four tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in one quart of warm water and a soft, clean cloth.
Surfaces should then be rinsed with warm water and dried with a soft, clean cloth.
To remove spots or soap film on the dishwasher tub or the door liner, owners should run the dishwasher empty.
After 15 to 20 minutes of running, open the door and pour two cups of white vinegar onto the bottom and allow the
appliance to finish the cycle.
Maytag/Whirlpool warns consumer that they should not use following items on their dishwashers: abrasive or harsh
cleaners, ammonia, chlorine bleach, concentrated detergents, solvents and metal scouring pads
Consumer Experience
While Caloric dishwashers are no longer being sold, consumers may find information on existing models through
generic replacement parts merchants. Several models were available with either 1 to 3 cycles or 4 to 6 cycles and
parts for these are available through repair technicians and parts merchants
